All of these trails are part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. There are still areas of the trail that need to be completed.
This 24-mile nonlinear trail has segments on both banks of Pittsburgh’s three rivers with access to neighborhoods, business districts, and local attractions. The system evolved from five separate trails in nine different sections. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail connects Pittsburgh to Ohiopyle. This trail is part of the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile multi-use path that connects Pittsburgh with the Cumberland Bike Trail known as the C&O Canal towpath in Cumberland, MD. Just riding through? Pennsylvania's Allegheny Highlands Trail follows the former right-of-way of the Western Maryland Railroad through the Somerset County area. For bikers who wish to camp the access to Kentuck Campground is just off the trail near Ohiopyle. This trail is also excellent for hiking, jogging and cross-country skiing. Bike rentals are available at most of the Rafting Outfitters in Ohiopyle. This trail is suitable for all ages and is ADA accessible. Although they impact the trail, we don’t always have control over the activities being performed by other agencies and groups and may not have up-to-date information on them.If you like biking, Southwestern PA and the Ohiopyle area is your dream come true! The Great Allegheny Passage has 27 miles of trail in Ohiopyle State Park and connects to Pittsburgh, Pa and Cumberland, Maryland. Please be aware that there are community events, road projects, utility repairs, etc., that may impact the trail throughout the 106 miles of the Florida Keys. There are camping opportunities available at some state parks and private campsites. The trail offers access to many points of interest and ecological resources throughout the Keys, including Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge, Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge and Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge, as well as 10 Florida State Parks. The trail and its historic bridges also provide a beneficial, alternative transportation route that links island communities in the Keys. Theres plenty of room for backcountry experiences on the Narrow Gauge Pathway (also known as Carrabassett River Trail) nestled between Sugarloaf Mountain.
The existing FKOHT is paved in segments along the corridor from Key Largo to Key West, with the longest, continuous section of paved trail located in the Upper Keys between MM 106 at Key Largo and through MM 72 at Islamorada, Village of Islands. At more than 100 years old, the bridges are no longer used for transportation. These bridges are part of Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway built around the turn of the 20th century. They are the Ohio-Missouri, Ohio-Bahia Honda, Missouri-Little Duck, Lower Sugarloaf and Niles. Please be advised that a few fishing bridges in this area have been closed for safety purposes. Highway 1, a designated National Scenic Highway and All-American Road, this recreational pathway incorporates 23 of the historic Flagler Railroad bridges, offering a scenic venue for hiking, running, bicycling, skating, sightseeing, fishing and paddling.
